Hole in the Sky
I sometimes call this the “Abduction shot” because the hole in the sky looks like science fiction. When first published in 2003 as one of a series of note cards, I was asked repeatedly if the sky was digitally manipulated or “photo-shopped.” It wasn’t. On a winter morning in 2001, many miles from anyplace or anyone, I drove up a hill into this scene. I thought it was a fleeting cloud formation but it persisted and even intensified. I took five shots, horizontals and verticals. Ultimately, no one or thing came down from the hole, and Iwasn’t drawn up through it…as far as I can recall.
